Project Overview
The doubly magic nature of 146Gd in the A = 160 mass region is identified due to the gradual transition between spherical and deformed shapes caused by increasing neutron holes. This interaction reduces energy and increases collective behavior. The angular momentum of the nucleus is generated by aligning spins in shell model orbitals, leading to polarization and high spin isomeric states. Heavy ion fusion reactions will be used to study high spin excitations in 156,157,158,159Hf, and 155,156Lu nuclei.
