Project Overview

The project aims to develop an indigenous catalytic process for coal-derived CO2 hydrogenation to dimethyl ether (DME) at moderate temperatures and pressures. The process will be accelerated using an AI-ML framework for direct conversion of CO2 to DME. The project will establish a catalyst manufacturing setup for pilot plant testing and demonstrate the optimal CO2 to DME conversion process in a pilot scale. The methodology includes accelerated catalyst design, development of hybrid catalysts, optimization of catalyst composition, and optimization of physical strength. The project will also enhance DME yield through separation and recycling unreacted reactants in the pilot plant. The project will lead to the creation of new knowledge and innovative technologies, opening up new opportunities for commercialization. The project aims to develop indigenous technology for decarbonizing major CO2 emitting industries, such as power plants, steel, cement making, and coal gasification. The success of this technology depends on efficient CO2 utilization and the development of catalysts that can convert CO2 to DME in a single step.
