About
Disaster management has shifted from response and relief to a prevention-mitigation and preparedness approach, aligning with climate change adaptation, green-growth, and sustainability policies. India's diverse hazard and vulnerability settings necessitate the implementation of strategic endeavors using action research, policy research, case studies, and knowledge integration. A significant investment is needed in science-policy interface-based interventions to support capacity building and strategic actions at national and local levels. The proposed DST - Integrated Centre for Adaptation to Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction and Sustainability ICARS at IITR aims to promote capacities and public-policy for resilience and sustainability in multi-hazard environments through policy research, action research, and knowledge integration interventions. The project includes four specialized units: policy planning tools, human capacity building research activities, research case studies, and knowledge integration. The aim is to support research, policy-planning, capacity building, international cooperation, governance, and localization, while engaging with collaborating institutes.
