Project Overview

The study aims to investigate the anti-oxidant and cardioprotective properties of M.esculenta fruit extract in treating myocardial infarction and inflammation. The extract was prepared using a variety of phytoconstituents and tested for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The results showed that the extract was effective in suppressing inflammation and managing myocardial infarction. The study also found that the extract provided cardioprotective protection in both in vitro cell lines and in vivo murine models. This could help design alternative nutraceutical supplements for managing myocardial infarction and inflammation. The research aims to provide a better understanding of the potential pharmacological properties of M.esculenta fruit extract in managing these conditions.

Predisposing factors for myocardial infarction (MI) include unhealthy habits like high saturated fat, cholesterol, stress, and smoking. Current treatment strategies include beta-blockers, statins, and anti-aggregatory medications. However, there are no cardioprotective drugs due to costs, ethical concerns, and limitations in clinical trials. Inflammation can lead to chronic diseases, and few immunosuppressive drugs are effective. Medicinal plants, such as artichoke, have potential therapeutic properties due to their bioactive secondary metabolites.
