The project aims to improve drug delivery for postoperative pain and inflammation in cataract patients, addressing limitations of conventional therapies. It will develop a nanodispersion of Nepafenac, which will be incorporated into an in situ gel to extend pre-corneal residence time. Additionally, an intravitreal biodegradable microsphere will be developed to target the posterior chamber for post-operative complications. The project aligns with Atmanirbhar Bharat's goal of making India more self-reliant and self-sufficient.

The research will involve a comprehensive literature search on various platforms, including Science Direct, PubMed, J Stage, Patents, Google Patents, Bentham Science, Scifinder, and Google Scholar, to review different formulation approaches of nepafenac. Preformulation studies and selection of excipients will be conducted using various techniques, including physicochemical characterization, nanodispersion development, and biodegradable microspheres. In situ gels containing nanodispersion will be developed and evaluated, while biodegradable microspheres will be developed and characterized. In-vitro drug release studies will be conducted, and ex-vivo permeation studies will be conducted using an excised goat corneal membrane. The study will also examine the effect of sterilization on the polymer and toxicity studies.
