Project Overview

Polymeric nanoparticles, particularly nanogels, have potential applications in biomedical and pharmaceutical fields, particularly in controlled drug delivery and diagnostics. These nanoparticles exhibit exceptional characteristics such as biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity, mucosal adhesion, and binding with bioactive molecules. Chitosan (CS) is a potential biomaterial due to its biodegradability, biocompatibility, non-toxicity, and sustainability. CS can be chemically coupled with anionic polymers to form polyelectrolyte complexes, offering advantages such as high drug loading capacity, hydrophilicity, low interfacial tension, outstanding biodegradability, and compatibility. Ph.D. research aims to synthesize biodegradable and biocompatible nanogels based on CS and Poly methacrylic acid (PMAA), which have semi-interpenetrating networks suitable for biomedical and pharmaceutical applications. This research aims to present the characteristics of CS nanogels, the factors affecting their properties, and their biocompatibility through MTT assay.
