Project Overview

The problem of historical heritage structures is exacerbated by settlement, environmental and man-induced impacts, and degradation of foundation materials. The geological characteristics of these structures need to be systematically characterized to conserve and implement effective conservation measures. The project aims to investigate subsoil profile, foundation details, and mechanical properties of construction materials using geophysical investigations, numerical models, and geo-archaeology. The study aims to document the technical status of heritage structures, understand their behavior, and propose suitable strengthening measures to increase their life span.

The project involves a series of stages, including geophysical investigations, non-destructive geophysical surveys, numerical modeling, and report preparation. The first stage involves a multichannel analysis of surface wave MASW to obtain subsoil profiles, properties of subsurface materials, and spatial variations of ground. The second stage involves a non-destructive geophysical survey using ground penetrating radar (GPR) to assess foundation details and superstructure quality. The third stage involves a non-destructive geophysical survey on selected temple structures and laboratory tests to identify material degradations and defects.
