Project Overview

Traumatic dental injury (TDI) is the fifth most prevalent disease globally, affecting 92 of all patients seeking treatment for oral injuries. Most TDIs occur before 19 years of age and require stabilization of the traumatized teeth for optimal healing and preventing long-term complications. The current project aims to design a flexible dental trauma splint made of metallic material for stabilization of traumatized teeth. The proposed splint system would benefit 2.8 lakh Indian dentists, 300 Indian dental educational institutions, and around 7 lakh global dentists. The new splint would introduce a standardized splinting practice for TDI among dentists, at least in the country, if not in the world. The new splint is estimated to cost up to 1/10th of the price of the TTS, making it competitive in price and potentially having huge potential for export. The project aims to develop a flexible, high surface area, aesthetic, hygienic, and cost-effective affordable dental trauma splint consuming minimal adhesive quantity needed for bonding to the teeth structure.
