About
The project aims to assess the existing status of water quality in Lunglei District and identify environmental pollutin threats, issues releated to toxic metal and the remedial measures to be undertaken. The study will focus on the impact of rock-water interaction on the quality of potable water. GIS and Remote sensing methods will be used to assess groundwater potential zones of the area. Physical parameters such as color, Odour, pH, EC and TDS will be tested in-situ while the chemical parameters such as alkalinity relationship, total hardness, presence of sulphate along with concentration of heavy minerlas and trace elements will be measured. The biological parameters i.e., the degree of aerobic and anaerobic contents of the water sources will be established. The project is expected to assess the quality of water for drinking purpose and in turn help in explaining the source of contamination for the exploration of proper remedial measures.
Achievements
The studies carried out in Lunglei have resulted in the acquiring of new knowledge about the hydrogeological studies and as well as it resulted giving new knowledge in disaster management related domains.
Outcome / Output
Ground water analyses for potable water for rural areas in the district performed
Groundwater potential map generated for Lunglei district
Flood hazard zonation map generated for upper Kolodyne
Landslide hazard zonation map generated for Lunglei
