Project Overview
The program aims to quantify the role of flow-dependent covariances in the DA system for severe convective events in convection permitting resolution, especially over data sparse regions and complex topography. The high-resolution analysis will be generated in a computationally efficient manner using dual resolution Hybrid DA system. Further, the choice of inflation parameters and covariance localization can significantly affect the performance of ensemble DA assimilation schemes. It is proposed to estimate the optimal values of these parameters, which can be implemented in real-time operational forecasts of thunderstorm forecasts.
