About
The potential for quantification and identification of iron depositions has made Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping (QSM) an important tool in Medical imaging. Imperfections in the standard phase pre-processing are known to result in loss of spatial resolution and SuR information. Therefore, a major challenge in QSM is to recover the lost information in regions affected with imperfect background suppression. Tweaking the signal model after phase pre-processing as proposed in this project, enables the visualization of iron depositions in insular, motor cortex and superior frontal gyrus that are not identified in standard QSM. This encourages us to investigate further and improve the algorithm in terms of speed and accuracy. Moreover, application of the proposed algorithm in a clinical setting, will facilitate identification of other extraneous regions with iron deposition in the brain that are usually not visible or left unidentified with the standard QSM.
