Project Overview

The purpose of the project is to develop an integrated atmospheric and hydrological system for river basin to assess the impact of climate change on water resources. The project is built on using basic research results in terms of up to date ensembles of projections of future climate change in the framework of the CORDEX South Asia project (CORDEX SA), application of WRF model for downscaling and then integrated with hydrological model. This integrated system will be applied in a study of climate change impacts on water resources in the Banas River Basin in Rajasthan. The various activities in the proposed project will be started through interaction with different stakeholders and departments during the course of the project which will provide better understanding of present situation and availability of data. The scientific objectives of the study are: • To develop downscaled climate scenarios using WRF tool and CORDEX-SA experiments • To establish operational integrated Atmospheric-Hydrological Modeling System for the selected river basin • To assess the impact of climate change on water resource availability using integrated atmospheric-hydrological model for better management In order to accomplish above objectives, various tools and geospatial techniques will be used like WRF, HMS, etc. The project will provide data and insights of basin behavior in India’s data sparse semi-arid region for the present and future climatic conditions. Integration of a meteorological and hydrological will allow a strong basis for future water management and basin development plans.
