Inverted singlet-Triple Energy Gaps for Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Emitters Based on Donor-Acceptor Heptazine Derivatives

Project Overview

Organic-based building blocks for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) have shown potential in solid illumination and displays due to their auto-luminescence, flexibility, high color purity, and low power consumption. several luminescent mechanisms have been proposed, but none address the issues of fast efficiency roll-off and short lifetime of OLEDs. Recently, organic compounds with inverted singlet-triplet (INVEsT) gaps have gained attention in organic optoelectronics and photocatalysis. INVEsT molecules have unique features, such as higher T1 energy than s1, a negative energy gap, and no thermal activation for the down-converted RIsC process. This project aims to design and synthesize metal-free organic emitters with donor-acceptor and D2-A types to fabricate efficient OLED devices based on INVEsT molecules. The synthesized INVEsT molecules will be characterized using analytical and spectroscopic techniques, and structural aspects will be confirmed through single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The project aims to solve the problems of fast efficiency roll-off and short lifetimes of organic light-emitting devices.
