Project Overview
The project aims to combat rising carbon dioxide levels by designing and synthesizing metal-infused covalent-organic frameworks (M-COFs) for catalytic CO2 fixation. The research is driven by the global challenge of climate change due to elevated CO2 levels. The project aims to design 2D imine-based COFs with single metal-atom catalytic sites, which are hypothesized to exhibit enhanced catalytic activity for CO2 fixation and enable the production of valuable chemical products. The project uses a unique design strategy, selecting building units with metal-binding pockets to ensure effective inclusion of metal cations in COF pores. The COFs will be infused with various metal species to generate single metal-atom catalytic sites. The synthesized heterobimetallic photoactive 2D COFs will be investigated for their potential in photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into value-added products. The successful synthesis of M-COFs will significantly contribute to green and sustainable technologies, enabling efficient catalysts to convert CO2 into valuable chemical products.
