About
Marine heatwaves (MHWs) are prolonged periods of ocean warming that deviate significantly from long-term average conditions. They significantly impact the marine ecosystem and air-sea interactions, particularly in the Bay of Bengal basin, which is known for potential fishing zones and active domains for cyclones and monsoon depressions. This project aims to identify the development and decay of MHWs using high-resolution satellite data and vertical temperature and salinity profiles from Argo and buoys. Experiments using the Coastal and Regional Ocean COmmunity model will simulate MHW events, assessing their impacts on potential fishing zones (PFZs) and monsoon depressions and cyclones. The study aims to develop effective strategies for mitigating MHWs' impacts and promoting adaptation.
