About

Higher Himalayan Metamorphics are exposed in the region of the Main Central Thrust (MCT) and the Trans Himadri Fault in the north-eastern Kumaun Himalayas. These rocks, which are extensively visible in the Himalayas, have been recognized by geologists since the first geologists explored the range. The highest grade rocks, particularly those in the thrust belt and Greater Himalayan, are currently studied. The Greater Himalayan Terrane, composed of high-grade metamorphic rocks, was designed by C. L. Greisbach in 1891. Four formations in Uttarakhand define the division of the Vaikrita Group: suru, Padar, Higher Himalayan Crystallines, and Crystallines of Parbat-Zanskar. Variation in age and anticlinical structure formation have been found for the Vaikrita complex. However, neither the metamorphism in the proposed area nor its Tectonometamorphic and magmatic evolution has been constrained. Metamorphics in higher north-eastern Kumaun Himalaya comprise gneisses, schist, and amphibolite rocks, with the possibility of grade being very high. Pseudosection modelling and diffusion modelling are used for metamorphism and duration of thermal and tectonic processes in metamorphic rocks.
