Project Overview

Research on si3N4 ceramics with high thermal conductivity and good mechanical properties is crucial for power electronic device applications, orthopedic implants, automotive engine parts, turbine blades, high-performance bearings, glow plugs, cutting tools, wear-resistant parts, and armor applications. However, commercial applications are limited due to high processing costs. The cold sintering process (CsP) has gained interest in materials research due to its potential to process ceramics at low temperatures and in short times. This study aims to prepare si3N4-srTiO3 composites at low processing temperatures, lowering costs and exploring their potential for electronic substrate and bio-applications. CsP is a green, energy-efficient, and beneficial method for obtaining nanocrystalline ceramics. The proposed work will evaluate the densification, microstructural characterization, sintering mechanisms, mechanical properties, dielectric and bioactivity properties, and identify potential applications for si3N4-srTiO3 composites. Limited research is being conducted in India and non-oxide ceramics.
