About
Glutamate, a non-essential amino acid, is a neurotransmitter with high concentrations in the body. It is produced from glucose and can cause neurotoxicity and neurological diseases. Abnormal levels of glutamate could indicate issues with glucose metabolism, making it interesting to analyze for neurological diseases and metabolic disorders. Monosodium glutamates are commonly used in fast foods and Chinese foods, but the Indian Preventions of Food Adulteration set a limiting value of 1%. sensitive and selective sensing of glutamate is relevant for clinical diagnosis, food industry, bio-processing, safety, drug discovery, environmental monitoring, fermentation monitoring, and renewable fuel cell development. Both enzymatic and non-enzymatic electrochemical methods are effective due to their high sensitivity, convenience, speed, and low cost. Non-enzymatic electrochemical sensors, such as those using electroactive polymers, have shown potential for improving stability, sensitivity, selectivity, reliability, and cost. The project aims to develop a non-enzymatic sensitive glutamate sensory system with high selectivity and sensitivity for applications in clinical diagnosis, food industry, bio-processing, safety, drug discovery, environmental monitoring, fermentation monitoring, and renewable fuel cell development.
