Project Overview

In this project, it is proposed to develop a compatible coating technique to improve the gas barrier properties of HDPE or PA6 liner material. In the initial phase, the coating fluid containing GO or nanoclay and the binder will be developed, and its compatibility and bonding nature with the substrate will be determined. Based on the results, the functionalization of the nanocoating will be determined. Using the dip-coating technique, the GO or nano clay coating will be applied as a layer on the HDPE or PA6 substrate. An iterative dip-coating layer is applied till the required thickness is reached. The interfacial properties of the coating will be determined by conducting tests like peel-off strength, cross-hatch adhesion test, and pull-off adhesion test. Once the coating passes these test, it will be tested for hydrogen permeability test as per AsTM 1434 and IsO7229 standards. As a part of these experiments permeation coefficient, diffusion coefficient and solubility coefficient will be measured. Finally, the coating will be tested for degradation after long exposure to high-pressure hydrogen.
