Project Overview

Poultry slaughterhouses release significant volumes of wastewater due to their extensive use of freshwater in meat processing operations, including evisceration and bird washing. Conventional treatment methods face limitations, leading researchers to embrace electrochemical technology (ECT) for wastewater treatment. ECT has shown effective performance with high removal rates, but has limitations such as the formation of intermediate by-products (IBP), high energy consumption, green hydrogen generation, functional properties of precipitated solids, and electrode passivation. Mixed metal oxides (MMO) electrodes, coated with oxides, offer advantages in facilitating high chlorine production. Metal conductive oxides are used as catalysts on titanium substrates to enhance their mechanical and electrocatalytic properties. The performance of MMO electrodes in OER and CER can be significantly improved by incorporating oxides like IrO2, RuO2, and La2O3, or a combination thereof. The fractional replacement of TiO2 with active oxides improves electrocatalytic activity for ECT. PsHW contains significant protein, making it a potential source of animal feed or functional food. The project aims to use novel MMO electrodes for green H2 recovery, functional food development, IBP identification, and maximum pollutant removal with minimal operating cost.
