Project Overview
Cervical cancer is the fourth leading cause of mortality globally, with slow progression taking about ten years. Current techniques, such as cytology and colposcopy, are costly and require skilled workers. A transvaginal probe has been proposed to estimate cancer biomarkers like glycogen, Protoporphyrin IX, HbO2, and Hb, to differentiate cancerous tissues from normal ones. The probe uses autofluorescence and multispectral diffuse reflectance spectroscopy to detect an increase in porphyrin and target isosbestic points for HbO2 and Hb. The probe also quantifies protein, glycogen, and nuclear index on the cervix's peripheral tissue, distinguishing pre-cervical cancer from normal cases.
