Project Overview

The focus of the proposal is two-fold: a) Firstly, to explore and generate fundamental understanding about the exciting and challenging physics of quantum spin liquid systems using Raman scattering measurements as a function of simultaneous different perturbations. Herein, in-situ studies will help to understand the effect of low temperature, high-pressure on the dynamics of charge carriers, phonons and low energy excitations etc. Along with, the high-pressure in many putative quantum spin liquid systems is conjecture to be useful for pushing systems into ideal spin liquid phase, therefore it will be very interesting as well as challenging to observe these ideal quantum spin liquid phases and probing their proximate phases. b) secondly, towards material engineering through tuning the dynamics of low energy excitations as a function of controlled external perturbations such as low temperature, electrical field, high-pressure as well as high-pressure and low temperature and systematically investigations toward as a potential topologically active materials for next generation candidates for quantum computers. Here, these quantum spin liquid systems has to be probed through the in-situ non-destructive Raman spectroscopy investigation. However, this will require successful setting up of experimental facility for non-destructive, Raman measurements with our existing high-pressure Diamond Anvil Cells and low temperature cryostat.
