About
Climate change poses a significant threat to ecosystems, agricultural productivity, water resources, socio-economic stability, and sustainability. Current efforts in Jharkhand are inadequate and lack integration, with limited knowledge hindering progress. The Government of Jharkhand has prepared its first Climate Change Action Plan (JSAPCC) in 2015, which is currently under revision to align with the National Development Goals (NDCs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To combat climate change, the government proposes establishing a Climate Change Centre under the National Mission on Strategic Knowledge for Climate Change. The centre will act as a multi-stakeholder platform, coordinating with key Central Government departments and state governments, and networking with agencies, think tanks, research institutes, and NGOs. The center will use collected information to predict weather variability, climate change-induced vulnerability, and strategize measures to enhance ecosystem resilience.
