Project Overview
The Environment Management and Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), established in 2002, is a key agency for climate change research and capacity building. Established in 2016, the Strategic Knowledge Centre for Climate Change in EMPRI has created a state-of-the-art Climate Change Laboratory and an interactive web-portal. In 2017, EMPRI established Permanent Preservation Plots (PPPs) in two major forest areas, Bannerghatta National Park and Doresanipalya Reserve Forest. A five-year plan aims to strengthen the climate change laboratory and research activities, transforming it into a center of excellence in climate change research. The project aims to target sectors like health, agriculture, water, forests, and urban heat island. Web-based applications for public, students, and departments on climate change and its impacts are proposed. Databases of floral and faunal diversity are also proposed. Capacity building is planned, including strengthening training units for governmental authorities and the public. The project aims to combat climate change in five years through knowledge bank, vulnerability/risk profiling, action-bound schemes, and critical monitoring mechanisms.
