Project Overview

Global climate change has already caused significant environmental impacts, including shrinking glaciers, breaking up ice on rivers and lakes, shifting plant and animal ranges, and earlier tree flowering. Scientists predict that global temperatures will continue to rise due to greenhouse gases from human activities. The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is preparing its second State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC). A dedicated climate change center in Jammu Kashmir, supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology, has conducted sectoral vulnerability assessments to highlight the impacts of climate change. This enhanced understanding will help identify and prioritize mitigation and adaptation strategies. The JK Climate Change Cell acts as a knowledge hub for stakeholders, supporting research, knowledge base, and data. The program aims to strengthen the multi-stakeholder platform by bringing together government departments, research institutes, NGOs, agencies, and experts working in climate change. The cell will act as a repository of climate change knowledge, update the indicator database, and develop action plans through collaborative research.
