Project Overview
The development of small to medium scale decentralized wastewater treatment and recovery systems specifically for micropollutants and contaminants of emerging concern represents a novel and innovative approach to the growing water pollution crisis. The coupling of standard and nonstandard techniques for treatment of these unique wastes, such as advanced oxidation, use of constructed wetlands, electroChemical oxidation, advanced oxidation and anaerobic filtering, is also considered a relatively unexploited approach. The sub-projects that address the three main objectives described above are all aligned to the central project theme, i.e. the development of a hybrid non-sewered wastewater treatment system for safe discharge and reuse, and follow a rigorous scientific method, involving the standard practice of manipulating quantitative, independent variables to generate statistically analyzable data.
