Project Overview

This project aims at establishing wider collaboration between Vienna Technical University,TuWien Austria and Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur IITK, India in the area of Forest Characterization using high-resolution remotely sensed data, particularly LiDAR and photographic data from various platforms. The activities planned in this project lead towards this main goal and include, i visits by young researchers and project leads to the partner University, ii interaction on the respective research works, iii jointly working towards conducting a seminar in the subject area, iv working towards establishing a Joint PhD supervision framework between TuWien and IITK, v developing a long-term project dealing in the theme area of Forest Characteriazation, and vi finally working towards joint publications in the subject area. The problem domain of the project, i.e., Forest Characterization, is highly relevant considering the need of estimating the biomass and carbon stock at individual tree scale and will help both countries meeting their commitments towards sustainable development growth goals.
