Research Projects

Geo-electrical characterization of the fault zone in the Himalayan foothills and Sub-Himalayan region in and around Mohand area Uttarakhand, India. This proposal is being submitted as follow up project of earlier sanctioned DST-DAAD project vide DST order no DST/INT/DAAD/P-19/2019 dated 15.07.2019 to complete unfinished, due to Covid Pandemic, approved project objectives

Project Overview

The proposal aims to investigate the electrical resistivity structure of the fault zone in the Himalayan Frontal Thrust (HFT) around the Mohand area using Transient Electromagnetic TEM (TEM), Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT), and Magnetotelluric MT techniques. The study will be conducted at selected sites in the area, preferably along profiles P1, P2, to delineate the electrical resistivity structure at shallow, intermediate, and deeper depths. The Indian group at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee will use ERT and MT facilities, while the German group from the University of Cologne will use TEM facilities. The project aims to fill the gap in the study area by adding more ERT and MT data along with a new TEM data in the fault zone. The outcome of the project is likely to open new ways to improve the resolution of geo-electrical image by integrating shallow tools ERT and TEM with deep investigation MT technique in the Himalayan region.
