Project Overview
This proposal aims to develop self-sensing composites for crack detection and monitoring in smart concrete structures. These composites show a detectable change in electrical resistivity with applied stress, making them useful for structural health monitoring.
The research program aims to develop a new class of dual-purpose composite materials for structural applications, providing good structural performance and detailed information for infrastructure owners. The smart FOS-FRCM strengthening system for bridge applications will be used to assess the system's long-term effectiveness and durability using sensor readings. This system integrates resiliency directly into structural design, extending service lives, minimizing costs, and improving safety and reliability. The project will be divided into three main phases: manufacturing, numerical simulation, material testing, and structural testing. The goal is to develop advanced manufacturing tools that can seamlessly incorporate optical fibres within the overall fiber architecture of the composite without interfering with its installation process. The project will also organize a joint workshop at IIT Jammu.
