Project Overview

Stroke is a prevalent cause of movement disability worldwide, posing significant challenges to the healthcare system and potentially increasing rehabilitation costs. A project is being proposed to use cable-driven robots for gait training and assistance of Stroke patients. The Indian side plans to develop an active cable-driven robot that analyzes real-time walking data to enable subject-specific interventions. The Slovenian side proposes a flexible and adaptable passive cable-driven robot for treadmill training of Stroke patients. The main goal is to design swing-phase interventions that promote paretic leg training to improve gait symmetry in Stroke patients. The main outcome is a passive cable-driven robot with a suitable architecture and gait intervention that significantly improves gait performance. The project aims to develop a viable cable-driven robotic solution for gait rehabilitation of Stroke patients and involve extensive human experimental studies. The project has potential for publications in reputable journals and a patent on the developed methodology. The proposed system can be installed in hospitals, physical therapy clinics, and community dwellings, providing affordable community-based accessibility for gait monitoring, assessment, and training. The project is of complementarity nature, targeting an important healthcare problem by both countries.
