Project Overview

The project aims to organize a science awareness camp for SC students of government schools in Muktsar Sahib and Ferozpur, Punjab. The objective is to improve the knowledge of students about science, technology, and innovations in the new age technology-driven world. A survey conducted in aspirational districts of Punjab revealed that students lack sufficient knowledge about basic science experiments, latest innovations, and government schemes in the field of science and technology. The State of Punjab has the highest percentage of Scheduled Caste population among all the States of the Country. As per the Census-2011, the Scheduled Caste population in Punjab is 88.60 lac, which is 31.94 of the total population. However, a significant number of SC families still live below the poverty line. The majority of SC people reside in rural areas, with 73.33 living in rural areas and 26.67 in urban areas. The proposed initiative aims to ignite students in the field of science and technology and motivate them to build careers in these fields and participate in science competitions. The target groups for this project include 2250 direct and 17500 indirect beneficiaries. The project involves discussions with principals, deciding event dates, confirming venues, calling experts, inviting participants, organizing the event, collecting feedback from participants and experts, and submitting reports. The project will be implemented in various districts of Punjab, including Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Firozpur, Jalandhar, Faridkot, Moga, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Mansa, Bathinda, Barnala, and Fatehgarh Sahib. The project will involve a clear description of roles and responsibilities, including meeting with principals, invitation to experts, meeting with head of schools, field assistants, exhibition workers, finance workers, and office staff under the supervision of PI. The project will also involve pre-camp surveys, feedback collection, brainstorming meetings, implementation of outcomes in the next camp, and reporting in the final progress report.
