About
Fire hazard cases in infrastructure, warehouse, and transportation sectors have increased rapidly in recent years, with aerosol-based fire extinguisher systems being preferred due to their near-zero ozone depletion and global warming potential. Traditional pyrotechnic composite material (PCM) is a vital component in these systems, consisting of an oxidizer, reducer/fuel, binder, and performance enhancer additives. However, traditional PCM binders, derived from non-renewable petroleum resources, are highly flammable, resulting in high flame temperatures and increased risks of secondary fires in explosive environments. The synthesis method and reagents used for producing these binders are also unsafe for humans and the environment. To address these technical issues, a research work proposes eco-friendly, sustainable, and reproducible polyesters derived from renewable and eco-friendly resources via green pathways. The proposed binder will be used for the development of PCM. The success of these binders will determine if they address the technical issues of PCM. As fire hazard cases in India increase across all sectors, there will be a growing demand for developed PCM for firefighting applications in various sectors, including electrical, transportation, military, warehouse, and marine sectors.
