Project Overview

The existing battery systems for electric vehicles (EVs) face challenges such as circulating currents, charge equalization, battery health monitoring, density, and reliance on Li-ion resources. A key solution is the hybrid/eutectic battery combination, which combines multiple storage systems to enhance density, lifetime, fault-tolerant capability, and performance. Major sources for EVs include Li-ion batteries, Lead-acid batteries, Ultra-capacitors, Fuel Cells, Zinc, and Ai-air. This project proposes an active parallel module (APM) and digital twin system with IoT systems, integrated with every parallel battery module. The active paralleling is simple, robust, and has higher safety. The unique features of the proposed active paralleling include complete isolation, independent control, zero circulating under any voltage difference, charge equalization, and paralleling of batteries with any type and/or magnitudes. The digital twin of a battery module provides performance characteristics, health monitoring, future prediction of currents and charge levels, control, and data management. The APM is unique, consists of fewer elements, and meets all types of battery safety standards for EVs. It also supports charge equalization of two parallel connected modules and helps in connecting different types of batteries with different voltage magnitudes.
