Project Overview

This project proposal aims to establish a novel protocol to construct C-Si/C-Ge bonds using dual photoredox and organo/hydrogen atom transfer catalysis under visible light irradiation. The enantioselective synthesis of organosilanes and organogermanium compounds can also be achieved by synergistic dual photoredox-chiral hydrogen atom transfer catalysis. Furthermore, the concept of electron donor acceptor (EDA) chemistry will be explored for the photocatalyst-free synthesis of organosilanes and organogermanes. In addition, this synergistic catalytic approach will also be extended to dual photoredox-chiral Brønsted acid catalysis in enantioselective radical conjugate addition. The outcome of this project is expected to provide efficient and sustainable access to a range of building blocks which will potentially add more applicative research in the area of drug discovery and beyond.
