About

This patent proposes a novel configuration for superfast and ultrafast battery charging stations fed from both grid and solar PV. The hybrid type PV and grid supply store energy into an ultracapacitor/supercapacitor before the EV plug into the socket. The ultracapacitor, along with PV and grid, pumps a large power into the EV battery during charging, reducing the time to fully charge the battery. The proposed control for the power converter configuration allows PV and ultracapacitor to work together in case of grid supply interruptions or grid supply inaccessibility. The invention relates to the circuit topology and control of a hybrid solar PV-UC-grid system, enhancing the maximum charging capacity of PV-fed charging stations. The proposed schematic offers advantages such as increased/maintaining maximum charging capacity, significant dynamic response, constant charging operation under large variations in grid supply, and unaffected isolation with desired dielectric strength between grid and EV battery port. This technology can provide a solution for EV charging infrastructure in remote locations, overcoming limitations in installing EV charging stations due to intermittent electricity supply and voltage variations.
