About
The increasing demand for high data rate communications, massive connectivity requirements in IoT applications, and spectral congestion issues in traditional RF-based communications have led to the interest in visible light communications (VLC) due to their wide bandwidth, license-free spectrum, energy efficiency, and low implementation cost. However, VLC systems require line-of-sight (LoS) between the access point and user equipment, which may not always be possible in indoor environments. This project aims to improve VLC system coverage using intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRS) to overcome this constraint. The project also focuses on improving VLC system performance using hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) technique, a link layer technique that combines channel coding with ARQ scheme. The project will develop an experimental setup for data transmission and reception in indoor environments and address physical layer security to ensure secure transmission over VLC communication links in the presence of eavesdroppers. The project will analyze the combined impact of random position of the mobile user and random orientation of user equipment on VLC system performance using IRS and HARQ techniques. The project will also comprehensively analyze interactions among multiple eavesdroppers and propose algorithms to improve the secrecy performance of VLC systems.
