About
This proposal aims to conduct high precision structure calculations of atoms and ions to investigate potential optical clocks for quantum metrology and quantum computing applications. Optical atomic clocks are the most accurate devices for time measurement, used in various applications such as frequency and time standards, navigation systems, quantum computation, and physics beyond the standard model of particle physics. The project will use Relativistic Coupled-Cluster (RCC) theory to perform atomic structure calculations, examining properties such as excitation energies, electric dipole, quadrupole and octapole transition amplitudes and life times, hyperfine structure splitting and constants, and electric dipole polarizability of highly charged ions (HCIs). The proposed atomic clocks will provide accurate data on the properties of HCIs, which will be useful for ongoing and planned atomic clock experiments globally.
