Project Overview

The increasing demand for specialty chemicals is driven by the exponential population growth and the increasing demand for organic compounds. Catalytic systems have been developed to efficiently generate these compounds, with transition metal complexes supported by well-designed ligands being a popular choice. These complexes use the steric and electronic properties of the ligands to improve the performance of the catalysts at the metal center. 1, 2, 3-traizole-based ligands, generated via a 'click' reaction, are also known to act as supporting ligands in transition metal catalysts. These ligands, such as inverse 1, 2, 3-traizolyl-pyrdines, provide different coordination and electron density to the coordinated metal, resulting in varied catalytic activity compared to regular transition metal complexes. However, none of the few known complexes of inverse 1, 2, 3-traizolyl-pyrdine ligands have been used in any catalytic reaction. This proposed project aims to synthesize 1st and 2nd-row transition metal complexes supported by various inverse 1, 2, 3-traizolyl-pyrdine ligands and utilize them in targeted chemical transformation reactions. Initial results from the research group are also included at the end of the proposal.
