Project Overview

A novel bifacial nucleobase (GC) has been synthesized, with a self-complimentary G-C base pair within the molecule. This enables supramolecular polymer formation, potentially enabling the synthesis of smart polymer self-assembling systems and PNA oligomers. The Janus nucleobase containing PNA oligomer may have biomedical applications, such as destroying bacterial ds DNA in bacterial cells. The GC has also been successfully applied for copolymer synthesis, producing a reprocessable and recyclable network. These hybrid GC nucleobases could have applications in biomedical engineering, biomaterials, drug delivery, and DNA grafting. The triazine heterocycle, a G-C mimic, interacts with nucleobase C and G of DNA/RNA.
