About
The project aims to develop next-generation textile-based nanogenerators and photosensing devices using functionalized ternary 2D alloy nanomaterials decorated with metal nanoparticles for superior performance optoelectronic and wearable electronics applications. The project will use innovative design strategies to model and design nanogenerators, which will be fabricated using scalable manufacturing techniques. The enhanced performance nanogenerators will be used to fabricate wearable photodetectors, activity monitoring sensor units, and power generators for remote health detection applications. The project consists of four parts: synthesis of solution processable ternary TMDC alloy source materials, decoration of as-synthesized nanostructures with Au nanoparticles, structural, optical, and charge transport studies of plasmonic ternary TMDC alloy nanostructures and films, and fabrication and testing of PVDF-plasmonic ternary TMDC alloy nanostructures and nylon or silk fibroin/plasmonic ternary TMDC nanocomposites. The as-grown plasmonic nanocomposites will be characterized using various analytical techniques, and the optimally processed materials will be tested for real devices by fabricating P-PENGs. The project aims to maximize the output generation of devices while optimizing their wearable properties.
