Project Overview

Two-dimensional (2D) materials like graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, black phosphorus, topological insulators, boron nitride, and perovskites are gaining attention for their applications in electronics, optoelectronics, energy storage, sensors, composites, flexible devices, and photonic devices. Perovskites have recently emerged as a promising material for solar energy harvesting and photodetection due to their high power conversion efficiency, comparable to silicon materials. These materials possess extraordinary opto-electronics and photonics properties, including wavelength tuneability, broadband light absorption, long photocarrier lifetimes, high carrier mobility, long carrier diffusion length, low charge recombination rates, high fluorescence yield, and ambipolar transport. Perovskites have found potential applications in solar cells, light-emitting diodes (LEDs), field-effect transistors, waveguides, lasers, and photodetection. Researchers are working on combining the advantages of 2D perovskites materials with optical fiber Bragg grating (PEBR-FBG) photon detectors for next-generation photodetectors. The direct detection of broadband light at ultrafast speed using perovskite-FBG could reveal fundamental scientific principles and open up industrial photonic applications in astrophysics, optical communications, scientific imaging, medical imaging, and energy harvesting. Experiments include direct CVD growth of 2D perovskites materials on optical FBG devices, optical and material characterizations of perovskite materials coated optical FBG devices, broadband wavelength photodetection based on perovskite-FBG devices, and ultrafast photon detection based on perovskite-FBG devices.
