Project Overview

Distributed generation (DG) in the form of renewable energy resource like wind energy, and solar photovoltaic (PV) is the greatest encouraging energy sources, have gained popularity as alternative power generations because of increased demand of electricity, continuous depletion of fossil fuels, environmental pollutions and recent deregulation of electricity markets. As well the uses of electrical vehicles reduced injection of the harmful gases in the environment. But, large amount penetration of electric vehicles on grid has injected novel challenges in to the grid. The reliability of DG resources in terms of the power supply is highly affected. Its high penetration into the conventional grid increases safety hazards and risks of damages such as islanding occurrence, power quality (PQ) disturbances, protection, stability, power management, deviation and system frequency. To eliminate harmful effects, PQ events require assessment methodologies. Therefore, existing industry practice is to establish a fast and accurate method for disturbance detection. Further, fast and proper detection of islanding will help to stabilize distributed generation (DG) system through a smooth transition of their control schemes. 2. Objective of the project: * Simulate a AC-DC large bus distribution system with different types of load and electrical vehicles * Implementation of control scheme for integration of Renewable sources, electrical vehicle to the grid * Study the impact of different types of faults and disturbances on AC-DC microgrid system * Analyze the impact of electrical vehicle on separately solar PV connected system * Stability analysis of the grid * Impact of harmonics and mitigation techniques for the healthy operation of grid
