Project Overview

Interactive Tactile Internet (TI) applications are unique due to their feedback-centric closed-loop human-machine interaction, requiring bidirectional data communication. However, haptic applications require stringent latency and reliability requirements. Existing literature has overlooked aspects of TI systems, such as latency analysis, computation latency, and computationally-efficient Machine Learning algorithms. The study aims to address these issues and design an intelligent TI system. The methodology includes studying the state-of-the-art TI system, conducting experiments, analyzing the closed-loop TI system, designing novel ML-based algorithms, developing a testbed, and conducting field trials. The utility of the TI system is a more realistic architecture, a haptic dataset for analysis, stringent latency requirements, computationally-efficient ML algorithms, and a testbed development as a proof-of-concept. The impact of TI on the 5G communication network is significant, as it will become useful in the coming days and have a huge commercial scope.
