About

The growing energy demand, a major challenge, is exacerbated by global warming. Ocean wave technology and offshore wind farms can help release extra burdens from other energy sources and mitigate the global warming effect. India, the second most populated country, needs to meet its people's energy needs to maintain a 7-10% GDP growth rate. Research funding has increased for wave energy conversion devices, with the Oscillating Water Column (OWC)-based approach being widely considered. This study aims to solve control-related problems of ocean wave power plants in real-time, addressing issues such as stalling behavior, controlling air flow, maximum power point tracking algorithms, Artificial Intelligence-based rotational speed control of doubly fed induction generators, and smooth electrical power using Super capacitors. Simulations will be performed for uncontrolled and controlled wave power plants to assess plant performance. The simulation task can be divided into three stages: designing the wave energy emulator, testing older control methods, and designing new artificial intelligence-based control methods. Hardware implementation will be divided into three stages: implementing the wave energy emulator using Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), implementing existing control methods, and implementing the proposed AI-based nonlinear control methods. This approach aims to address the challenges in commercializing wave energy conversion devices and contribute to India's energy needs.
