About

Pesticides are crucial in the agricultural sector for killing harmful pests and insects, protecting crops, and enhancing crop production. However, their use can lead to health concerns like cancer, rashes, and blindness, as well as environmental problems like the death of beneficial microorganisms and disturbance in the food chain. Pesticides also become persistent organic pollutant in soil, degrading its quality and cultivability. To address these issues, there is a need for robust and effective technology for pesticide degradation. Currently, there are three main technologies for pesticide degradation: physical soil treatment, chemical use like sodium persulphate and hydrogen peroxide, and biological degradation using mixed microbial consortia. While these methods are eco-friendly, they may not provide 100% efficiency. A robust reaction system for pesticide degradation is needed, and the microbial electro-Fenton system, which has the potential to degrade pesticides in aqueous solutions and soil, can be applied. This approach can help address the negative effects of pesticides on the environment and crop production.
