Project Overview

To address associated PSI postoperative complications, varieties of computer-assisted systems were developed. These systems function as a 3D navigation tool and are considered a substitute for 3D intraoperative imaging systems. These systems are architectured based on principles of intensity-based 3D-2D registration. The existing intensity-based 3D-2D registration frameworks are computationally complex and requires high-end systems for faster intraoperative applications. Hence, a hybrid 3D-2D registration framework can be developed which can incorporate registration principles from different approaches and can synchronize in line with existing surgical practice. In spite of development, quality assurance, and validation, the application of these navigation tools in the clinical environment is limited. Hence, a prototype can be developed to initiate and strengthen a new pedicle screw insertion practice to support the existing clinical practice through enhancing screw positioning and minimizing screw malposition.
