About
This project focuses on the fabrication and design of microwave absorbers and EMI shielding jackets to reduce electromagnetic (EM) radiation pollution within the frequency range of 0.3 to 40 GHz. The rapid growth of cell phone towers has led to the emission of EM radiation, which affects living objects such as humans, animals, birds, and plants within 150 meters of them. This radiation can cause neurological problems, such as headaches, memory loss, tremors, nausea, dizziness, altered reflexes, muscle spasms, muscle and joint pain, depression, and sleeping disorders. EM radiation also disrupts the functioning of electrical implants like Pacemakers, Implantable Cardiovascular Defibrillators, and Impulse Generators when it interferes with their signal. To address these issues, the project aims to design single- and multi-layered microwave absorbers and EMI shielding jackets. Maximum absorption should be observed for materials where magnetic and electric loss factors are well matched with the microwave frequency. The thickness of the material significantly impacts their EMI shielding behavior. The state-of-the-art material can be successfully fabricated using magnetic-conducting binary nanofillers incorporated-polymer composite systems. Various magnetic hexagonal ferrite systems and their binary composites with conducting nanofillers play a crucial role in generating large magnetic and electric losses inside EMI shielding materials. Fabricating composite materials in single- and multi-layer structures can further improve the absorption capacity of these materials. Polymer plays an important role in forming laminated, flexible, light weight, single- and multi-layer structures, making composite materials the most suitable candidate for EMI shielding jackets to reduce EM pollution in the microwave frequency range.
