About
The energy crisis has become a critical concern due to rapid industrialization and limited availability of fossil fuels. sustainable energy substitutes, including highly-efficient storage technology and clean energy resources, are needed to break the dependency on fossil fuels and reduce environmental pollution. Hydrogen energy is an ideal sustainable energy source due to its light weight, high energy density, high energy/mass ratio, and high calorific value. Countries like India, China, Us, Canada, Israel, and Japan are developing cost-effective green hydrogen technologies. Various two-dimensional (2D) materials have been proposed for hydrogen storage, but they suffer from low surface area, high weight, and weak interaction with hydrogen molecules. To overcome these issues, layered MXene heterostructures are proposed as a sustainable material for hydrogen storage with high capacity. The proposed system is expected to be more effective in adsorbing and storing hydrogen with high capacity due to surface functional groups, high surface area, mesoporous structures, and metallic characteristics.
