Project Overview

This research project aims to develop energy storage devices for portable applications, focusing on all-solid-state sodium-ion batteries (AssBs) due to their low cost, abundant, and less hazardous raw materials. AssBs consist of an anode, cathode, and a solid electrolyte, which are crucial for cell function and aging. The development of safer electrolytes with a large electrochemical window and power density is a challenge. The most studied solid polymer electrolytes (sPEs) for AssBs are sodium salts with Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), while ceramic electrolytes exhibit high ionic conductivity, good thermal stability, and efficient dendrite suppression. The project plans to use sodium perborate (NaBO3.4H2O) as an electrolyte and solid electrolytes made up of PEO-NaH8BO7-Na3Zr2si2PO12 with Na metal as anode and NaFePO4 as a cathode in AssBs. This research aims to advance sophisticated batteries at affordable prices, enabling sustainable goals.
