Project Overview

The aim of this proposal is to design and develop an efficient on-board charger (OBC) for electric vehicle with bidirectional capability. OBC is typically equipped inside the BEVs and it consists of a full-bridge rectifier, a power factor correction circuit and a chopper circuit. The alternating voltage is fed to the OBC, where AC is converted into regulated DC which is further used to charge the battery. OBC also plays a crucial role to satisfy the requirements such as power factor correction (PFC), output voltage & current regulation, reduced electromagnetic interference and reduction in input current harmonics, etc. The proposed system will offer the flexibility for the battery to be charged at different locations. Focus will be given to provide solutions such as EMI noise suppression, PFC, harmonic current reduction, over-voltage protection, spike protection and regulation of load voltage/current for the proposed dual-active bridge (DAB) based on-board charger. The proposed system will be evaluated using numerical simulation and experimental hardware laboratory prototype and the performance will be compared with the existing state-of-the-art techniques.
